Before your first day

What to expect and what you need to do

The BEST Regional Onboarding Team stands at the ready to assist departments, and the new employees they hire, with the various steps needed to complete the onboarding process. All new hire/rehire paperwork is completed remotely through an online process that includes an electronic paperwork packet (DocuSign). For details about Benefits Orientation Sessions, see the information to the right for alternatives as sessions are currently being offered virtually.

Here are additional details to help you prepare:

1. DocuSign and scheduling your onboarding session

  • You will be sent a DocuSign packet via email from the following email: bestonboarding@berkeley.edu. Check your spam if you have not received it.
    • It is critical that you complete your DocuSign packet as soon as you receive it so that we may initiate your hiring information in our HR system. The sooner the better!
  • Plus, we recommend you schedule your onboarding video appointment within 48 hours of receiving the DocuSign packet. Instructions for scheduling are included in the email.

2. Section 1 of your I-9 (Required employment authorization)

3. Identify an Authorized Representative to physically inspect your work authorization documents (i.e., ID) and attest using section 2 of your I-9 on behalf of the University.

  • Valid, original (NOT COPIES) of work authorization documents.
  • For a list of acceptable work authorization documentation, please visit this website.
    • Why is this needed? This documentation is required by federal law in order to be employed by the University.
